The History of Japanese Science and Technology This lecture will lecture and discuss the history of science and technology in modern and contemporary Japanese society. It will especially cover the two periods - the transitional period from Edo to Meiji when numerous Western technologies and scientific knowledge were introduced and the postwar period when defeated Japan quickly recovered and achieved rapid economic development. Students will be assigned to read papers and make presentations during the semester. Lectures are given in English, and students are also encouraged to discuss and present in English.
